DECISION GAMES Suwalki Gap RUSSIAN STRATEGY
a. Forget the 2 coastal Baltic capitals. Focus on taking Daugavplis, Vilnius and Kaunas. Use the bulk of Russian forces for this. You will also need the stronger Kaliningrad units as the Southern prong.
b. Keep 3 full divisions to be landed by sea and air in Kaliningrad. By Turn 4, the Kaliningrad SAM/ASM units should be well-protected by these arrivals.
c. Once Daugavplis is taken (may require 2 Turns) leave 1 division to guard it. Swing the others south-east to help in the coming battle against the 2 NATO brigades in Lithuania (avoid attacking them until NATO land intervention is imminent).
d. With this strategy, the Russian player should have enough divisions to defend Kaliningrad and Kaunas from NATO by Turn 5, just as NATO land intervention has begun. Remember to smash those potential NATO supply sources to your rear with available ballistic missile strikes. Also, the rules do not allow NATO to invade Russia or Belarus.
